About Karen

For nearly two decades watercolor painting has been my passion. The memory of that first moment I dropped some watercolor paint into water still gives me a thrill! And I’ve been in love with watercolor painting ever since.

Living in beautiful Humboldt County for much of my life has inspired my life’s work.  After graduating from Humboldt State University, I dedicated myself to a career working with North Coast California non-profit organizations that support the arts and the community.  Since then I have devoted myself to painting as a full time pursuit.

I have been fortunate to study art with Bob Benson, Alan Sanborn, James Moore, Jeanne Carbonarou, Barbara Nechis, Birgit O’Connor, and Robert Burridge.

I have had a number of solo shows including at Plaza Design, Garden Gate, Humboldt Area Foundation, A.G. Edwards and I also participate in North Coast Open Studios. I am very proud that over sixty of my paintings hang in health facilities in Humboldt County. I’ve also shown in many group exhibits, juried shows and at the Morris Graves Museum.  I was invited to exhibit my work at Humboldt State University’s First Street Gallery.  One of my flower paintings was accepted into the California Watercolor Association’s 38th Annual National Show. My work is in numerous private and corporate collections.
